Curriculum Collection Catalogue - Art & Design 'Masks' - Collection No. 561 'Masks’ is one of the 'Curriculum Collections' that support the teaching of the primary Art & Design curriculum. The collections are available on termly loan from the Schools Library Service (SLS). This collection supports the CAS sculpture unit on masks.
It contains books, posters and photographs depicting a variety of masks. For example:
· masks used for protection at work and in sport.
· masks used for ritual and expression of religious belief.
· masks used for fun and fantasy. The collection includes books with practical ideas for mask making and at least one artefact in the form of a mask. The collection also contains pictures of interesting and beautiful masks from several different cultures both ancient and modern. These include masks from Africa, North and Central America, Australia and Europe.
The resources in the collection can be used to give inspiration and design ideas for mask modelling and mask assemblage. There are over 250 Curriculum Collection topics that support teaching in various curriculum areas.
